Downtown Historic District

Here you'll find charming homes on tree-lined streets varying from cozy cottages to magnificent, Federal, Georgian and Victorian-style homes. Restoration in ongoing. If you enjoy a more urban lifestyle, filled with local cultural activities, home tours and an area rich with history, then one of the lovely restored homes, or "sleeping beauties" awaits you. Prices range from about $200,000 (ready for some work) to over $1 million on the Neuse River waterfront. 

 

Carolina Colours

Inspired by vibrant, historic coastal towns with a genuine sense of community, Carolina Colours strives to be a place of simple natural beauty where neighbors become special southern friends. Time-honored qualities of traditional living are woven into the land planning fabric of a contemporary southern coastal community. Outdoor activities take precedence. Sidewalks and bike paths connect diverse residential neighborhoods with Brices Creek, Carolina Lake and the Towne Lawn and Park. The Activity Campus features the social Pavilion, Golf Course and planned Pro Shop/Swim/Tennis/Fitness Recreation Centre. To service life's daily needs, a Retail Towne Centre is planned for the future. Brices Creek Area

Located southwest of New Bern and James City, and just across the Trent River, you'll find several new subdivisions, including Lake Clairmont, Hunters Ridge, Oakview, Deer Run, River Trace and Snug Harbor. It is bordered by the Croatan National Forest and the Trent River. The mature trees and foliage offer a country blend, while just a few short minutes to downtown New Bern. Prices range from about $175,000 to over $950,000 depending upon age and location to the creeks and river. 

 

Ghent District

From small bungalows to larger homes, Ghent was added to the National Register in 1988, with a mix of homes dating from 1913 to World War II. Each home is charming with a style of their own. Many younger families have moved into this area, with lots of energy for remodeling and restoration. One of the prettiest streets in New Bern is Spencer Avenue, which is a part of this neighborhood. It also boasts large flowering fruit trees that are beautiful in the spring. The area is located between the US 17S corridor, with close proximity to shopping and restaurants. It is bordered by the downtown Historic District, Twin Rivers YMCA, and Lawson Creek Park, which offers fishing, nature trails, boat launches and a picnic area. Prices in the Ghent area start around $150,000 and can run up to $600,000 for larger, remodeled homes.

 

DeGraffenreid Park

Recently enlisted in the National Register of Historic Places, DeGraffenreid Park is located between Trent Road and Neuse Boulevard. Homes are stately and sit on well-landscaped lots. Tree-lined streets with sidewalks allow residents to enjoy leisurely strolls in the neighborhood. Home values remain between $250,000 and $450,000; always a sound investment.


Greenbrier

A premier golf course community in the city limits of New Bern, this Weyerhauser development boasts a Rees Jones designed championship course which is home to the annual Curtis Strange Shriner Classic. The location of this community is central to shopping, the US 17 corridor and US 70. A spectacular new medical complex is located across the road in McCarthy Square, which also houses the new surgical center of CarolinaEast Medical Center. Early development of the community began in 1988, and now has over 550 homes ranging in price from $180,000 for patio homes to $600,000 for custom single family homes. On any given day, the centrally located Emerald clubhouse keeps residents busy with bridge games or "after golf chat." With lovely mature trees and lakes, Greenbrier is home for many retirees who have chosen New Bern as their Southern Surprise!

 

Fairfield Harbour

This gated community of approximately 3,000 acres started as timeshares several years ago. Fairfield Harbour is located about 20 minutes from downtown New Bern off Highway 55 across the Neuse River. It is now home to many northern retirees, with two golf courses, a clubhouse, tennis, store and three marinas. The canal system, which runs through the community, allows homeowners to dock their boats right behind their home. Although numerous homes have been built there in the price range of $200,000 to over $500,000 for waterfront homes, there are several lots available. When the bridge over the Neuse River was completed in 1999, the City of New Bern and Fairfield Harbour became a very short commute. Homes have appreciated considerably.

 

Taberna

Taberna is one of the newest and most upscale golfing communities in the area. From the moment Taberna was created, this private country club community of over 1,100 acres has blended the best of old world charm and old fashioned Southern hospitality. Literally translated, the name Taberna means "place of hospitality" and the quaint waterfront city of New Bern provides the perfect backdrop. Located off US 70 just 3.5 miles east of the Trent River bridge, Taberna was annexed into the city limits of New Bern.

Taberna offers a lifestyle for everyone. In addition to golfing, residents of this planned community enjoy tennis, swimming, canoeing, bike and nature trails, and many social events sponsored by the homeowners or the Taberna Country Club. Since Taberna is located in the coveted Creekside Elementary School district, the community has attracted almost as many families as it has "younger retirees." Trent Woods

A separate township within New Bern, this lovely residential neighborhood offers quiet winding streets, covered with mature live oaks, dogwoods and azaleas. Some of the neighborhoods within Trent Woods include Fox Hollow, a great family neighborhood with ranch styles priced from the $150's. There's also Country Club Hills, Bellefern, Wilson Creek and Creeks End. These homes range in price from $275,000 to $900,000+. Centrally located in Trent Woods is the New Bern Golf and Country Club, a private club that offers elegant, casual and banquet dining. It also offers golfing, tennis, swimming and fitness center. The "newcomer" to New Bern covets a personal invitation to one of their many social functions and golf tournaments. With a very limited number of acres remaining for new home construction in Trent Woods, some of the most elegant townhomes and patio homes have recently been completed there. These prices vary from the low $200,000 to over $1 million.

 

Olde Towne

Olde Towne Harbour is a prestigious neighborhood in the city of New Bern, located just east of Trent Woods. here you'll find lovely, spacious, upscale homes on beautifully treed and manicured lots, many with private riverfront docks. For those who desire fantastic waterviews with less yard maintenance, Olde Towne offers an area of townhome-style condominiums with garages. Prices range from smaller condos in the $250's to manificent waterfront estates over $1 million.

 

River Bend

River Bend is an incorporated town on the southern border of New Bern which originally started as as subdivision in 1980. The town has its own golf course, clubhouse, marina, tennis courts and convenience store. Homes include single family riverfront in the range of $200,000 to over $500,000. There are also many canal front homes, townhomes and patio homes. Some of these have private boat slips. Some maintenance free patio homes or townhomes start in the mid $100's, but many of the single family home prices are in the $200,000 to $300,000 range, making it affordable not only for retirees, but for younger families who are calling River Bend their home. 

 

Croatan Crossing

Croatan Crossing offers new homes with the EnergyStar® label… that’s why it’s sometimes referred to as the “Green” neighborhood.  Located between New Bern and Havelock, just 10 minutes from Cherry Point Air Station, 10 minutes from historic downtown New Bern, and about 30 minutes from the Crystal Coast beaches.  Prices range from the $150’s to the low $200’s.


River Bluffs

Lovely subdivision approximately 12 minutes east of New Bern, off 70E, it is convenient to both New Bern and Cherry Point. Variety of homes and lots from several qualified builders. Home prices vary from approximately $225,000 to $600,000 on the Neuse River Waterfront. Neighborhood is located in the very desirable Creekside Elementary School District. 


Belle Oaks

Belle Oaks is a new homes community situated within the New Bern city limits. A lovely, quiet neighborhood with young families and young retirees, prices range from $175,000 to $230's. Well-constructed homes featuring green spaces to create privacy buffers. 


Carolina Pines

A residential resort golf community conveniently located off US 70 between New Bern and Havelock. It offers a blend of countryside living and country club flair with a variety of housing. Houses typically sell between $100,000 and $160,000. Some of the neighborhood amenities include their championship 18-hole golf course with a club that overlooks freshwater lakes and the links. Carolina Pines is adjacent to the Croatan National Forest that offers camping, hiking and horseback riding trails.
