About New Bern

Welcome to the greater New Bern Area!

The natural beauty, mild climate and historic charm of New Bern make it a desirable place for both living and working. New Bern is located on the confluence of the Trent and Neuse Rivers, which offers great fishing, water sports, sailing and yachting.  The city offers the conveniences or urban living, while maintaining the comfort and security of a small town with many wonderful places to live. Neighborhoods like Greenbrier and Taberna, premier golf course communities; Country Club Hills, in Trent Woods, Historic Ghent, with tree-lined streets; and our Historic Downtown District, with homes dating back to 1750. New Bern boasts a variety of neighborhoods, so you're sure to find one that's right for you! Residents can enjoy award-winning schools, a regional library, a variety of shops and restaurants as well as unlimited social and cultural opportunities. With the beach only 45 minutes away, and Coastal Carolina Regional Airport provides connections to/from Charlotte and Atlanta, New Bern truly has it all.

The town was settled in 1710, making it the second oldest city in North Carolina. Home to the first state capitol, New Bern also boasts more than 150 homes and buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. We are proud of our rich history and are excited to share our vibrant city with visitors and new residents. The New Bern community has a thriving economy and reasonable cost of living. Its picturesque waterfront, beautiful golf courses and preserved national forests make it an area easy to call home.
